1 December 2015: On Saturday 12th December, Folk and Roots @ Guildford is hosting its last event of this series and has Animah Hughes and Twisted Herring.   Aminah Hughes has performed at a number of festivals and venues in Australia & Europe, shared stages with Tommy Emmanuel, Jimmy Little, GANGgajang & the Sydney Youth Orchestra, Californian songwriter Thom Moore (Mary Black), Mairtin O’Connor Band and renowned Irish traditional & blues musician Seamie O’Dowd.  Twisted Herring are a six-piece fiddle driven band rapidly gaining a reputation for playing traditional and contemporary Scottish tunes. 

3 December 2016: Perth Folk and Roots Club is working with Greg James Sculpture Studio Gallery at the J Shed in Fremantle for J Shed Folk and Roots on Sunday 11 December, with City of Fremantle support. Featured musicians include  Fiona Heath Duet, John Talati and a Trio of John McNair, Matt Stapleton and Keith Anthonisz. Fiona Heath brings expressive performance of acoustic music, jazz and soul as well as original songs and crowd favourite interpretations of Amy Winehouse. John Talati has been a performer at the Perth Blues Club working with many musicians and also played with well known Perth blues and roots men, Indigo Duck featuring Jeff Harrison and John Chopping.

10 April 2016: On Sunday 24th April 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club has Something Doing and Twisted Bandanna with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support. Something Doing play faithful arrangements of century old ragtime classics on vintage mandolin family instruments. Twisted Bandanna are Anna Campbell on vocals, Willy Woodbine on guitar and Brian Perriera on bass. 

16 November 2015: On Saturday 22nd November, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Steve Tallis and the Jamie David & Jen Goldberg Duet . Steve Tallis is Western Australia’s self proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s. Jamie David and Jen Goldberg as a duet are more often than not seen fronting the enigmatic “Miracle Band X”. They feature both pared-back acoustic to a more rocking' worldy/jazzy sound with a touch of Freo.

13 November 2016: Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes back Dave Robertson and the Kiss List and Twisted Bandanna for Sunday 27th November at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club.  Dave Robertson is a story teller though his indie-folk-pop songs and has played at the Nannup, Fairbridge, Earthdance and Fremantle festivals and West Coast Blues and Roots Fringe, as well as playing in Vancouver. Twisted Bandanna is a group that with Anna Campbell (vocals) and Willy Woodbine (guitar) joined by Brian Perriera on bass.



29 May 2016: On Sunday 12th June 2016 we have the Fremantle Folk and Roots Showcase at the Fibonacci Centre, 19 Blinco Street, Fremantle for from 6.00pm to 9.00pm and entrance is $10.  For this event we have Steve Tallis, Fiona Health, and John McNair and Keith Anthonisz Duet.  Steve Tallis is Western Australia’s self proclaimed blues shaman who is off to Europe and Fiona Heath brings expressive performance of acoustic music, jazz and soul as well as original songs.

23 October 2016: The Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes back Tout Droit and newcomer Glenn Rogers on Sunday 23rd October.  Tout Droit is a four piece band that specialise in European folk music from the renaissance and mediaeval eras. Their music has a focus on France but has influences from the Middle East and they play Instruments including the violin, piano accordion and hurdy gurdy. Glenn Rogers is a guitarist composer accomplished in both jazz and classical guitar. He has performed in concert venues and festivals in Amsterdam, Belgium, Germany, India and Australia. Glenn has played and composed in diverse styles such as Hindustani and Carnatic music.  

24 June 2015: Please note that the Perth Folk and Roots Club is not on Sunday 28 June 2015 at Mount Lawley Bowling Club after a cancellation and will be returning on Sunday 26th July.

29 May 2015: On Saturday 13 June 2015, the next Folk and Roots @ Guildford   features the Ray Pritchard and Eric Kowarski duet with Ray having lots fans with his gentle acoustic music down South from wineries in Dunsborough to Margaret River and Erik Kowarski being one of WA's most accomplished fiddlers. Steve Tallis, one of Perths best blues artists is also performing and is replacing David Mc Cleave who cant make it.

12 May 2015: On Sunday 26th May 2015, Perth Folk and Roots Club features crowd favourites the Suntones and Dilip Parekh supported by Keith Anthonisz. The Suntones are a four piece country/blues roots based band from Fremantle and Dilip Parekh is a Fremantle based songwriter and musician who is an Indian Irishman and is more widely known as the front man for high energy band - Dilip n the Davs.

21 April 2015: On Saturday 9th May, the next Folk and Roots @ Guildford  has the Braud & Beau country duet and Don Neander. Braud & Beau are a country and jazz act with a fresh take on country. Don Neander is a veteran who is classically trained by internationally acclaimed John Williams and also partial to blues and roots with solo performances at Blues at Bridgetown.

23 November 2014: On Sunday 23 November 2014, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Littlest Fox playing indie folk fare and Peter Byfield with country blues from Northam, supported by John Talati. Littlest Fox have been busy playing festivals including  Fleurieu Folk Festival, South Australia, Palm Creek Folk Festival in Queensland, Fairbridge Festival in Pinjarra and Illawarra Folk Festival in Wollongong.

21 December 2014: On Saturday 17 January 2014, Perth Folk and Roots Club with City of Vincent support has the Suntones, Shaun Corlsen, and the John McNair and Keith Anthonisz Duet for Folk and Roots @ Hyde Park from 12.30pm to 3.30pm at Hyde Park, Corner of William and Vincent Streets Perth. Perth Folk and Roots Club is also running a fund raiser selling CD’s for $10 with all proceeds going to Perth Folk and Roots Club. The Suntones are a four piece country/blues roots band and Shaun Corlson is a seonsoned songwriter who has released a number of CD’s.

2 August 2014: On Sunday 24th August 2014, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Freewheeling and Lauren Arthur supported by Keith Anthonisz and John McNair with special guest Steve Warner Jones on harmonica. Freewheeling plays roots music and mainly country, bluegrass and folk, although a little jazz, blues, rock and pop is also present.  Lauren Arthur is an emerging singer songwriter from Northam.  She is currently studying at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) for contemporary double/electric bass and plays both guitar and piano.

12 June 2014: The Perth Folk and Roots Club was incorporated on 12 June 2014 and will be focussed on both running the Perth Folk and Roots Club every month and establishing other events to support performances by folk and roots artists.

28 April 2017:  The Perth Folk and Roots Club supported by City of Swan is organizing the next Folk and Roots @ Guildford on Saturday 13th May featuring Storme in duet with Brett Hardwick and Dawn Barrington.  Storme is an accomplished singer songwriter who has supported gigs for John Farnham at the old Entertainment Centre in Perth and also performing alongside Australian artists like Robert James from GANGgajang, Lucky Oceans and Anthony Cormican and has begun writing her 5th album.  Dawn Barrington is from Denmark in WA and was selected for the Denmark Festival of Voice and has played at the Nannup Festival and has an EP recording called "Voices".

2 April 2017:  Folk and Roots @ Guildford is back on Saturday 8th April featuring the Conscious Dreamers and Dean Anthonisz. Conscious Dreamers are folk, americana & roots aficionados who have released an EP, performed at Mount Helena Alt Country Music Festival and are in the lineup of Nanga Music Festival.  Dean Anthonisz is a musician and singer songwriter from Perth but now living in Melbourne and is currently performing with Half Mongrel playing at venues like the Old Bar in Fitzroy, Bar Open in Brunswick Street and the Tote Hotel in Collingwood. While in Perth, Dean was part of well known Perth bands Mile End and Mongrel Country. 

2 March 2017: Folk and Roots @ Guildford is back on Saturday 18th March from 5 to 8pm at the Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford featuring BoobyTrap and Kerry B Ryan. BoobyTrap are a five member hills based band that incorporate tribal rhythms, crazy waltzes and pop beats to their original music and unique cover versions who have played at Bickley Harvest Festival.  Kerry B Ryan released a CD called Blues for My Sweety and has been playing at many venues around WA as well as over east.  Kerrys 2nd CD Crazy Blues has been getting airplay across Australia on blues programs and also airplay in the USA.

2 July 2017: On Saturday 8th July, Perth Folk and Roots Club supported by City of Swan has Folk and Roots @ Guildford featuring Lez Karksi and GypsyLou.  Lez Karksi’s background includes hanging out in ‘swinging’ London in the mid 60’s and playing with a Liverpool funk outfit ‘Supercharge’ bringing him to Australia in the late 70’s with a hit record ‘Get Up & Dance’.  Lez has worked as a musician/ producer with Flash & The Pan, Midnight Oil, Spy v Spy, The Triffids, Yothu Yindi, Jeff Lang whilst playing with The Hippos, Bondi Cigars and The Foreday Riders.  GypsyLou is a two-part vocal harmony duo with guitar accompaniment, playing traditional Irish and Scottish folk music, original indie-folk songs plus covers of popular music.

11 December 2016: Perth Folk and Roots Club Christmas Celebration is on for Sunday 18th December at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club starting at 5pm. Featured musicians include Old River Kid, Prhyme Duet and John McNair and Keith Anthonisz. Old River Kid is a Fremantle based folk group which has released two digital recordings, Bassett Street and Live @ King Street Studio. Prhyme are an acoustic duo playing organic music, good for your soul around environmental themes, sunset music and engaging songs for all ages with a funny and quirky twist.

6 March 2016: On Sunday 20th March 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club is back on a week early due to Easter with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support.  For this event, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Steve Tallis and Salt. Steve Tallis is a self proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s and is a major figure in the Perth blues scene. Salt are four women hills singers and musicians from the ukulele group Short and Sweet and Booby Trap with their influences ranging from a capella, ballads, folk and sea shanties. 

7 August 2017: On Saturday 19th August, Folk and Roots @ Guildford features the Justin Walshe & Rhyll Wilson Duet and the Threetles.  Justin Walshe live music has been described as ‘between a campfire yarn, a sea shanty, bush poetry and a country rock hoedown’ and they have performed at Fairbridge, the WAMi’s, Nannup, Bridgetown and the National Folk Festival.  The Threetles are an acoustic trio playing exclusively Beatles music.  They comprise John Talati on guitar, harmonica and vocals, Cathy Dale on percussion and vocals and Clarence Bailey on guitar, ukulele and vocals.  

20 September 2015: Perth Folk and Roots Club is on Sunday 4th October 2015 after being delayed by a week at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club with City of Stirling support. Featured are Braud & Beau with dobro, double bass and vocals sharing a retro fifties microphone taking a fresh look at country, jazz and roots with a feel just out of the 1950’s. Also featured is Shanine a singer songwriter from the South West of WA who has performed at various venues and events across Australia, Indonesia and Europe and is currently recording her debut album.

26 March 2015: On Saturday 11th April, Katey Brooks from the UK and Shaun Corlson will be performing supported by the John McNair and Keith Anthonisz duet at Folk and Roots @ Guildford, Saturday 11th April from 5.00pm to 8.00pm at the Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford. Katey Brooks is on tour in Australia and has played London 2012, Glastonbury Festival, WOMAD Festival, a BBC Introducing Stage headliner at Wychwood and several European Festivals.

23 February 2015: On Saturday 14th March, Perth Folk and Roots Club supported by City of Swan is having Folk and Roots @ Guildford  featuring music performances at the historic Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford from 5.00pm to 8.00pm.  Justin Walshe Duet and Tim Posey are performing at the inaugural event and the Folk and Roots @ Guildford  will be held on the second Saturday of every month.

22 February 2015: On Sunday 8th and 15th March, Perth Folk and Roots Club supported by City of Perth is having Piazza Folk and Roots music performances at the Northbridge Piazza. Piazza Folk and Roots will be from 12.00pm to 3.00pm at the Northbridge Piazza which is located on the corner of James & Lake Streets in Northbridge.  On Sunday 8th March, John Talati’s Gospel group and Rachel Dillon will be on and on Sunday 15th March, Steve Tallis and Monique Serpell are performing.

4 January 2015: Perth Folk and Roots Club is back in 2015 for its monthly line-up for Sunday 25th January 2015 as part of the Summerset Arts Festival for 2015 with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support.  For this event, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has shaman blues and roots player Steve Tallis and the Fiona Heath Duet.  

14 October 2014: On Sunday 26th October 2014, Perth Folk and Roots Club features the Suntones and Rachel Dillon supported by Keith Anthonisz and Steve Warner Jones. The Suntones are a four piece country/blues roots based band from Fremantle and Rachel Dillon is a Perth-based songwriter and folk musician who is a regular at music festivals including Tamworth, Boyup Brook and Canberra.

15 September 2014: On Sunday 28th September 2014, the Perth Folk and Roots Club has Steve Tallis and Cathy Earle supported by Keith Anthonisz and John McNair. Steve Tallis is Western Australia’s self proclaimed blues shaman who has been performing and recording since the 1960’s and is a major figure in the Perth blues scene. Steve is also releasing a new CD this September.

6 January 2017: Perth Folk and Roots Club is starting 2017 on Sunday 22nd January 2017 as part of the City of Stirling Summerset Arts Festival. For this event we have Helen Townsend a singer songwriter with a debut CD, Wayward Heart that has resulted in multiple nominations for awards and Dave Mercy is a singer/songwriter from Fremantle with his "Pictures of You" nominated for WAM Song of the Year.

30 August 2015: Folk and Roots @ Guildford is back on Saturday 12th September with David McCleave, Aaron Tuckey and John McNair. David Mc Cleave is a guitarist with roots in Glasgow who has a broad love for music. His big commitment is with the Clan, a 5 piece Celtic/pop/rock 'n roll band. Aaron Tuckey is related to David Helfgott and is a trained classical pianist who then started a rock band and is now in his third incarnation musically as he attempts to play the guitar like a piano.

12 August 2015: The next Perth Folk and Roots Club show is on Sunday 23 August and features Fiona and Mike Heath Duet and Greg Hastings. Fiona Heath brings expressive performance of acoustic music, jazz and soul as well as original songs and interpretations of Adele and Amy Winehouse. Greg Hastings is a well known figure on the Australian folk scene, from the early 70's at The Stables Folk Club in Perth and the Mucky Duck Bush Band and continues to live the life of a troubadour travelling while performing.

12 July 2015: On Sunday 26 July 2015, the next Perth Folk and Roots Club show is on featuring John Talati and Twisted Herring at Mount Lawley Bowling Club. John Talati is a performer known at the Perth Blues Club for working with  musicians such as Perth blues and roots men, Indigo Duck featuring Jeff Harrison and John Chopping. Twisted Herring are a six-piece fiddle driven band rapidly gaining a reputation for playing traditional and contemporary Scottish tunes and recently  played at the West End Weekender of the Fremantle Street Arts Festival.

28 June 2015: On Saturday 11 July 2015, the next Folk and Roots @ Guildford   features Lez Karski and Helen Townsend and friends. Lez Karski unique guitar and vocal delivery is known across Australia. Lez played with 'The Nervous Investors' nationally and with the late great Johnny Johnson's band, playing the Narooma and East Coast Blues festivals and appeared on a ‘Live at the Basement’ TV special. Helen recently launched her debut CD Wayward Heart at Clancy's Fish Pub in Fremantle in May 2015.

9 April 2015: On Sunday 26 April, Perth Folk and Roots Club supported by City of Stirling is on again from 5pm with Tout Droit and David Sofield at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club Corner of Storthes and Rookwood Street in Mount Lawley.. Tout Droit is a four piece band that specialise in European folk music from the renaissance and mediaeval eras. Dave Sofield is a singer/songwriter from Fremantle WA.

8 February 2015: On Sunday 22nd February 2015, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Dave Robertson and the Kiss List and the Helen Townsend Duet supported by Keith Anthonisz. Dave Robertson and the Kiss List is an indie pop folk group mixed with violin and mandoline sounds and Helen Townsend is a folk musician with country roots who has played at Perth Blues Club, Mundaring folk Club, the Norfolk Basement and Clancys Fish Pub.

22 July 2014: Please note that the Perth Folk and Roots Club set for Sunday 27 July has been cancelled due to renovations taking longer than originally thought at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club. Perth Folk and Roots Club will not be on again until Sunday 24 August. Apologies for any inconvenience.

September 2017: Folk and Roots @ Guildford supported by City of Swan has been announced for Saturday 9 September 2017 from 5.00pm at the Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford and will be featuring Prhyme and Greg Cunningham.  Prhyme are Lee Goodall and Irma Lachmunde.  They have been playing at the Bony Mountain Folk Festival, the Conservation Council Spring Eco Fest and the Roleystone Musicians Club as well as other hills community events. Greg Cunningham has been playing music for over 35 years. Greg is a masterful player of a variety of instruments including finger picking guitar, slide, banjo, mandolin and harmonica.   

1 October 2015: On Saturday 10th October, Folk and Roots @ Guildford has Dave Robertson and Don Neander performing. Dave Robertson is a story teller though his indie-folk-pop songs and has played at the Nannup, Fairbridge, Earthdance and Fremantle festivals and West Coast Blues and Roots Fringe, as well as playing in Vancouver. Dave is supported by the Kiss List featuring Rachel Armstrong.  Guitarist Don Neander is a veteran guitarist who mixes a range of styles.  Don is classically trained and participated in master classes with classical guitar greats John Williams and Turibio Santos.  

7 October 2017: On Saturday 14th October, Brett Hardwick & Juanita May Duet and Robbie Jalapeno will be performing at Folk and Roots @ Guildford on Saturday 14th October from 5.00pm at the Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford.  Brett Hardwick and Juanita May are a father and daughter duo from the Perth hills with Brett part of the music scene since the late 70s. Robbie Jalapeno is the founder of The Faceless Bureaucrats and combines acoustic guitar with funk.

14 June 2016: On Sunday 26th June 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club has Ray Pritchards Book of Shapes and David Sofield. Ray Pritchards has a history with some of Perths best known bands including Visitor, Saracen and Trilogy. Book of Shapes recently released a new EP called 43 Years at Ellingtons Jazz Club in May of this year. Dave Sofield is a singer/songwriter from Fremantle WA.  David recently performed at Ellingtons Jazz Club Night Cap Session with Pete Grandison.

27 February 2016: On Sunday 28th February 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club is back on with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support.  For this event, Perth Folk and Roots Club has Katey Brooks and Rick Steele.  Katey Brooks is on tour in Australia from the UK and has played some amazing shows including London 2012, Glastonbury Festival, WOMAD Festival, a BBC Introducing Stage headliner at Wychwood and others in Europe.  Rick Steele heads up the Perth Blues Club and is one of the best known blues musicians in Perth. 

10 January 2016: On Sunday 24th January, Perth Folk and Roots Club has the Suntones and Matt Delahunty as part of the City of Stirling Summerset Arts Festival with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support.   The Suntones are from Fremantle and are a four piece country/blues roots based band currently playing to the enjoyment of many around Perth and Fremantle.  Matt Delahunty is well known in Australian music history for his Tall Tales and True trio with Matt on vocals and guitar. The band enjoyed ARIA nominations and world-wide tours including US, Canada and England. 

29 October 2015: On Saturday 14th November, Short and Sweet and Dawn Barrington will be performing supported by Keith Anthonisz and John McNair.   Short and Sweet is a Ukulele Group comprising of 3 short and stumpy sheilas from the Perth Hills; sisters Dorothy and Noreen on Concert Ukuleles and Priscilla on Baritone Ukulele.   Dawn Barrington lives in Denmark in the South West and is very much in the folky, earthy, storytelling music tradition.

9 May 2016: On Sunday 22nd May 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club has Jook Joint Band and Kerry B Ryan with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support. Jook Joint Band is a jug band at heart and play jug, washboard, ukulele as well as guitar, bass and drums.   Kerry B Ryan is a blues guitarist from Queensland who performs original blues songs inspired by Freddie King, Jimi Hendrix, B.B King, Albert King ,Johnny Winter, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Johnson.

11 June 2017: On Sunday 25th June 2017 Perth Folk and Roots Club features Dave Robertson & the Kiss List and Rick Steele starting at 5pm.  Dave Robertson & the Kiss List are an indie-folk-pop group that has played at the Nannup, Fairbridge, Earthdance and Fremantle festivals. Rick Steele is a local legend of the blues scene who has been playing in Perth for more than 30 years. Since arriving in Perth in 1976 he has been delivering his mix of blues and country all over WA and also nationally and overseas.  

11 September 2016: The Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes back Lez Karski and has rescheduled Freebird for the next Perth Folk and Roots Club on Sunday 25th July.  Lez Karski has played with Liverpool funk outfit ‘Supercharge’, worked with Flash & The Pan, Midnight Oil, Yothu Yindi, Jeff Lang and many others in Sydney, and played blues with The Hippos, Bondi Cigars and The Foreday Riders. Freebird features Cindy Stevens who has released an album ‘Live Wire’ and a single UrU & ImI in 2012 and has been a performer on West TV and Foxtel. 

30 July 2015: On Sunday 8 August 2015, the next Folk and Roots @ Guildford is on and features David Sofield and G String. Dave Sofield is a singer/songwriter from Fremantle and his first album "Pictures of You" released in February 2014 brings together the songs and the collaborative efforts of Dave and Perth guitar virtuoso Errol H Tout. G String is a group named for the unique single-stringed Dustbin Bass played by Fred Warren, which is tuned to G with Will Hepburn on guitar and Kym Livermore on lead vocals.

14 August 2016: On Sunday 28th August 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club will feature Helen Townsend Duet and John Talati. Helen Townsend is a singer songwriter with a country style whose debut CD, Wayward Heart has resulted in nominations for Boyup Brook Country Music Award and WAM awards.  John Talati is a professional musician focussed currently on gospel.  John Talati has been a performer at the Perth Blues Club and also played with Indigo Duck.

4 June 2017: On Saturday 10th June, Perth Folk and Roots Club supported by City of Swan has Folk and Roots @ Guildford featuring Kings and Queens duet and Leather 'n Lace trio. Kings and Queens are a folk duo from Fremantle with singer/songwriters Richard Glover and Kaleisha Dutton, that bring together great harmonies in the Americana folk tradition.  Leather 'n Lace are a versatile trio that performs an eclectic mix of smooth acoustic soft rock, country, blues and jazz covers, with the earthy tones of Rachel Miller's vocals blend with Willy Woodbine on guitar/vocals and Ken Turner on double bass and bass guitar.

24 January 2017: Perth Folk and Roots Club is starting a new series of Folk and Roots @ Guildford, a monthly series of music performances on the second Saturday of each month. For this event on Saturday 11th February from 5 to 8pm at the Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford, we have Ron Smeeton known in Darlington as a local legend on guitar, bass and a working musician who has played with groups including Steve Tallis and the Zar brothers back in the 1970s in the blues band Bitch and Pia a singer songwriter who has been performing in the hills including the A Day in the Forrest Hills Festival.

14 April 2017:  Perth Folk and Roots Club is back on Sunday 23rd April 2017 with Eleanor Frith and Pete Grandison Duet and Dilip Parekh. Eleanor Frith and Pete Grandison celebrate Celtic, Australian and American folk and have played in prominent acts with Eleanor in Catfish, Reel to Reel and Mucky Duck Bush Band while Pete was with Bluegrass Parkway, Devils on Horseback, Dammit Janet, the Blue Celts and Rogues.  Dilip Parekh is an Indian Irishman from Fremantle who is a singer/songwriter more widely known as the front man for high energy band - Dilip n the Davs.

13 July 2017: On Sunday 23rd July 2017 Perth Folk and Roots Club has Tout Droit and John Talati. Tout Droit is a four piece band that specialise in European folk music from the renaissance and mediaeval eras. Tout Droit performed at the National Folk Festival in Canberra and have also performed at Ellingtons Jazz Club. John Talati is a singer/songwriter/guitarist and harmonica player who has released a number of original albums and plays solo as well as in a number of bands including The Rick Steele band, Indigo Duck and the Lovebites.  

15 October 2015: On Saturday 25th October, Perth Folk and Roots Club has has BoobyTrap and Dilip Parekh. BoobyTrap influences range from a capella and heart wrenching ballads, to edgy folk tinged pop songs and rollicking sea shanties.  Dilip Parekh is an Indian Irishman from Fremantle who is a singer/songwriter who writes  his own contemporary eclectic folk material and is more widely known as the front man for high energy band - Dilip n the Davs.  

September 2017: Perth Folk and Roots Club lineup supported by City of Stirling & Mt Lawley Bowling Club has been announced for Sunday 24th September 2017 from 5pm at the Mount Lawley Bowling Club, Corner Storthes & Rookwood Street, Mount Lawley and will be featuring Cathie Travers and the Suntones.  Cathie is a multi-instrumentalist and an accordionist and has performed in Australia, Asia, USA, Canada & UK. The Suntones are a Fremantle four piece playing country/blues roots music, are currently playing in and around Perth and are Club favourites.  

13 March 2016: On Saturday 2nd April 2016 Perth Folk and Roots Club is inviting everyone to the Hyde Park Stage area for music and a picnic with its Folk and Roots @ Hyde Park performance on Saturday 2nd April 2016 with City of Vincent support.  The performances are from 4.00pm to 7.00pm at Hyde Park, Corner of William and Vincent Streets Perth.  Performers include Freo acoustic and reggae favourites, the Freo Grasshoppers, Fiona Health with her acoustic, jazz and soul with Amy Winehouse influences, and John McNair, Keith Anthonisz and Vincent performer Matt Stapleton.

21 May 2017: Perth Folk and Roots Club has the Jook Joint Band and Greg Cunningham at the Mt Lawley Bowling Club on Sunday 28th May starting at 5pm.  Jook Joint Band  is  a  jug  band  at  heart  and  they  have  been  wowing  audiences with their renditions  of  old  time  blues,  skiffle  and  ragtime  music  in  and around WA for the past ten years.  They  have  played  at  the Bridgetown  Blues  Festival,  Fairbridge Festival, Boddington Music Festival and throughout the State at many other festivals.  Greg Cunningham has been playing music for over 35 years in various forms with a current focus on country blues. Greg is a masterful player of a variety of instruments including finger picking guitar, slide, banjo, mandolin and harmonica.

20 August 2017: Perth Folk and Roots Club is on again for Sunday 27th August 2017 with City of Stirling and Mount Lawley Bowling Club support with Lez Karski and Booby Trap. Lez background includes playing with a Liverpool funk outfit ‘Supercharge’ bringing him to Australia in the late 70’s with a hit record ‘Get Up & Dance’. Sydney in the 80’s found Lez as a musician/record producer, working with Flash & The Pan, Midnight Oil, Spy v Spy, The Triffids, Yothu Yindi, Jeff Lang and many others, whilst playing the blues with The Hippos, Bondi Cigars and The Foreday Riders. BoobyTrap are a hills based band that incorporate tribal rhythms, crazy waltzes and pop beats to their original music and unique cover versions.

10 July 2016: The Perth Folk and Roots Club welcomes Freebird and Leanne Bugat to the next Perth Folk and Roots Club on Sunday 24th July.  Freebird features Cindy Stevens who has released an album ‘Live Wire’ and a single UrU & ImI in 2012 and has been a performer on West TV and Foxtel.  Leanne Bugat is originally from Melbourne and has been performing for many years in cover bands and as a solo performer. Leanne recorded her first album in 2005 and entered three songs into an international song writing contest called Song of the year.  Her song “Without condition” finished in first place.

16 February 2017: Perth Folk and Roots Club is on Sunday 26th February 2017 at Mount Lawley Bowling Club featuring Ray Pritchard and Greg Bridge. Ray Pritchards Book of Shapes is Rays musical collaboration with like minded musicians and they released a new EP called 43 Years at Ellingtons Jazz Club in May 2016.  Greg Bridge is a singer songwriter with folk, a touch of country and a laid back style whose family links him to the Kimberley.  Greg has written almost 300 songs and is following on his urge to get back into live performance.

19 March 2017:  Perth Folk and Roots Club are featuring the Suntones and Robbie Jalapeno on Sunday March 26. The Suntones were formed in 2009 in Fremantle and are a four piece country/blues roots based band much loved by Perth Folk and Roots audiences. They combine a wonderful range of acoustic instruments including acoustic upright bass, mandolin and Dobro and are on the bill for the up and coming Toodyay Music Festival. Robbie Jalapeno is the founder of The Faceless Bureaucrats in 2010 and combines acoustic guitar with funk.

The Perth Folk and Roots Club runs a monthly event on the fourth Sunday of the month with performances recently concluding at Mount Lawley Bowling Club and the Club is now looking for a new venue.  Perth Folk and Roots Club also runs Folk and Roots @ Guildford on the second Saturday of the month at the Mechanics Institute Hall, 20 Meadow Street, Guildford.  The Club is supported City of Stirling and City of Swan. Originally the Perth Folk and Roots Club started at the Oxford Hotel in 2012 by former Committee members of the WA Folk Federation in order to expand venues for musicians to perform.
